Chris Rock Broke the Rules
Of comedy, that is
Whatever you or I think about Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, or Chris Rock, the Oscars situation was fascinating and instructive and will be discussed for years.
Kanye must be ecstatic.
But I thought the point of all this comedy and art and entertainment was to, oh, I don’t know, be FUNNY?????
The joke didn’t work. Period, end of story.
It did not justify its bleak existence or the brouhaha that ensued. It was fucking dumb and fell flat. That slap was the best thing to ever happen to that joke, because as far as I can tell, little ink has been spilled about how horrendously awful it was AS COMEDY.
I mean, G.I. Jane? Have you even seen it? I haven’t. How long ago was it?
Wait, I’ll go check. [goes and looks it up]
1997. Demi Moore.
It’s not current, recent, or even memorable, is it?
Was that the best he could do AT THE OSCARS? HE must have some massive beef with the Smiths to dish out that excrescence.
Would Seinfeld, Gervais, or Eddie Murphy make that joke?
I’m not even mentioning female comics, because you know damn well none of them would have made that nonsense posing…
